Members of the Gonjaland Youth Association and residents of Bole in the Savannah Region has on Saturday, October 24, 2020 come together to reiterate the need to eschew violence and uphold the peace of Ghana.
The move is to conscientise the youth to stay away from acts which has the potential to disturb the stability of the country as the December 7 polls is fast approaching.
The event brought together distinguished personalities and agencies within the Bole District, Key among them are the Ghana Police Service, Savannah Regional NPP Executives and other political parties members, Ghana National Fire Service, Representatives from the Local Council of Churches, the Imam for Bole, the Gonjaland Youth students, market women, head dressers, tailors among others.
The walk which took participants through the principal streets of Bole was under the theme : “peace walk for election 2020”.
Amidst brass band music some of the participants carried placards with inscriptions “Peace must prevail “, “We need peace”, “We have no place to go”, “we are one people “, “Peace is priceless”, “Seek peace and pursue it”, “Peace is the key to development”, “Be an agent of peace”, “Love peace and keep lives”, and “Peace is priceless”.
Bole wura Sarfo Kutege Feso (I) speaking at his palace after the walk, advised the youth not to allow themselves to be used by politicians to foment trouble during the 2020 general election.
“Election is not about war let speak the truth”, Bole wura added .
He said, “Bole has not enjoyed peace for 5 years and now that there is peace at Bole, he is encouraging the youth not to engage in electoral violence, so that Bole will continue to enjoy the peace been enjoyed currently. Bole is for everyone and has the right to come and campaign devoid of hindrance from any group”.
The President of the Gonjaland Youth Association, Lawyer Alhaji Amin Mohammed in his address expressed gratitude to the security agencies for guiding and protecting them through the walk.
He said , ” Gonjaland Youth Association stand for for Peace and will always work for Peace, and also to ensure development in the various communities.
The DCE for Bole District Madam Veronica Alele Heming also expressed gratitude to the various leaders for making the ceremony a success.
“peace is a continues process, nobody should allow to be used themselves as agent of violence, we don’t want any trouble” she indicated .
She said , “Bole is very peaceful, and that the security will deal with any person who plans to disturb the peace currently been enjoyed in Bole.
The Deputy Savannah Regional Minister, Samuel Yeyu Tika thanked the Gonjaland Youth Association for organizing such important event and hails Bolewura for his effort in starting the walk and ending the walk without ceasing.
He said, “Bolewura is committed to peace and also a man of peace.
“He didn’t see us, as small boys and girls but he joined us through the walk, and that he is a product of peace and knows the value of peace”.
He said, ” no community can develop without peace . ” No body from anywhere will go investing were they is no peace.
He added that politics is not a war battle, but base on the manifestos of the various political parties.
The Savannah Regional NPP Chairman Alhaji iddrisu suleman (kalmonia) adding his voice at the event, says ” in politics we don’t have permanent enemy, but we have permanent interest “.
He encouraged the youth to go out in their numbers and vote for their preferred candidate and return home peacefully without causing any problem.
