The Member of Parliament for the Bole-Bamboi constituency in the Savannah Region, Hon. Yusif Sulemana (Ori), has indicated that the election of the Speaker of Parliament from the camp of the NDC is a blessing to Ghana as a country which further deepens the nation’s democratic credentials.
“All businesses of the 8th Parliament will be of great benefit to the citizens of Ghana since there will be effective scrutiny of all bills and other inputs from the Executive and the NPP caucus of the House unlike what happened in the 7th parliament where the NPP and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo used their numbers to impose and passed certain legislations which we strongly opposed to,” he disclosed this in an Interview with Diwura Abdul Fataw on Yagbon Radio morning show” Tea Cup”, on Friday, 8th January, 2021.
According to Hon. Sulemana, the election of the former MP for the Nadowli-Kaleo Constituency of the Upper West Region, now Rt. Hon. Alban S. K Bagbin who hails from the NDC caucus of the 7th Parliament as the speaker of parliament is enough evidence that the 2020 polls was won by John Dramani Mahama and the NDC.
He added that the verdict from the supreme Court on the election petition by John Dramani Mahama and the NDC if unbiasedly deliberated on shall have John Dramani Mahama and the NDC as the crown winners of the 2020 polls conducted by Mrs. Jean Mensah, the Electoral Commissioner.
He further condemned the presence of armed military men in the chamber to ensure order and the actions of the MP for the Tema West constituency, Hon. Carlos Ahenkorah during the counting process of ballots in the House and added that the NDC caucus in the house shall ensure that Hon. Carlos Ahenkorah is brought to book.
Speaking on why the NDC MPs decided to occupy the right seats in parliament usually regarded as majority seats on the night of 6th January, 2021, he said “there is no majority and minority in the 8th parliament and therefore we are of every right to sit at the right hand of the speaker”.
He therefore assured the people of his constituency of his preparedness to serve them and shall ensure that they are fully and effectively represented in Parliament.
