Hon.Ursula Owusu Ekuful, Minister of Communications has underscored Government readiness to partner with telecom operators to provide communications services in the country’s rural communities.

She said the New Patriotic Party (NPP ) Government was committed to expanding telecommunications to all parts of the country to connect rural communities to the rest of the world.

Hon. Ursula was speaking at the commissioning of a telephone mast build by the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) at Mognori, in West Gonja Municipality of the Savannah Region.

Hon. Ursula Owusu mentioned that it is one of eight in West Gonja Municipality and we have 55 sites in the Savannah Region.

“So it is the vision of the Government led by the Akufo- Addo and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to ensure that every part of this country is connected and we don’t want to leave anyone behind and so when the Damongo MP Hon. Abu Jinapor notified the Ministry that your community also needed network we work very closely through GIFEC with the MCE Hon. you are experiencing it yourself and for those who don’t know how to get access to this network the officials of GIFEC will take you through it”she noted

The Minister said it is a tool that will facilitate the development of this country, it is much a utility as electricity or water so am glad that you have also been contacted to the national Grid and now you have been connected to the rural Telephone network so you don’t have any excuse not to utilize it to the fullest.

The benefit of this network is numerous you can apply for a passport if you want it online, drivers license online, health insurance, School results online siting here without moving to a different community for a network.

Because we are building a digital Ghana H.E the vice president is very key that we have a robust connectivity so that we can utilize it to grow our economy across the country she added.

Mr. Prince Ofosu Sefah, CEO of GIFEC in his speech mentioned that GIFEC was setup in 2004 under former President John Agyekum Kuffour to ensure that all our under served rural communities that are left behind in the whole digitalzation agenda we make sure that they are served and are connected and the get the results that they needed.

So that’s what we have been doing since 2004 but I can only tell you that since 2017 at GIFEC we can only be proud the kinds of results and support that we have gotten during this Government administration.

MCE for West Gonja Hon. Musah Kusubari speaking on behalf of the MP said during the 2020 general elections the people who Mognori made an appeal to the MP that they needed telephone network in the community and also construct their roads for them.
