The Associations of Presiding Member of the Savannah Region has expressed deep concern over the ongoing conflict in the sawla-Tuna-kalba District involving Brifors and Gonjas.
According to the Association through a press statement, this unfortunate situation, if allowed to persist, will have dire consequences for our beloved district and region as a whole.
It threatens:
●Education: Disrupting schooling and jeopardizing the future of our children.
●Food security: Farmers will abandon their farms, leading to hunger and hardship.
●Local Economy: Markets will collapse, businesses will suffer, and poverty will deepen.
●Human Life and prosperity: The cost of violence is always measured. Inncoent lives lost, and valuable property destroyers.
Furthermore, resources such as the District Assembly Common Found, which should be used for development, will instead be diverted into peacekeeping operations and conflict resolution efforts, leaving our communities underdeveloped and deprived of essential services.
We wish to remind all parties that there is no winner in any war. Violence only breeds pain and destroys the fabric of our coexistence.
We therefore call on all stakeholders, especially our brothers and sisters from the Brifore and Gonja communities, to exercise restraint and embrace for lasting peace.
Let us remember that we are one people with a shared destiny. Our strength lies in unity, division. We are appealing to our traditional authorities (Chiefs), opinion leaders, youth groups, and all peace-loving citizens to join hands in restoring calm and harmony in the district.
Peace is the foundation of development. Without peace, there can be no progress.
We are taking this opportunity to also call on the president of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellent John Mahama, to step in as soon as possible, making sure that there’s peace in his home region.
……Signed……
Hon. Alhaji Abdulai Mohammed.
