Deng festival held at Sonyor.

The people of Sonyor in the Bole District of the Savannah Region has successfully celebrated this year’s Deng festival with call on all ethnic and political groups to coexist in pursuit for development.

The Deng festival is been celebrated by the people of Valga, Safalba, Chorba and Normee.

At the durbar to commemorate the 2024 annual Deng festival, Vagla Koru Pentu welcomed everyone to Sonyor for making it a duty to celebrate the festival with him.

Speaking on his behalf, Mr Kipo said the Deng festival is the biggest and unique festival in the Savannah Region.

On behalf of the Kupo and the kasangwura we are grateful for being part of this year’s festival including a Chps Compound and reshaping of our road and we wish to see you next year kajumuwura acknowledged.

The President of the Vagla Youth Association Jacob Kubu Ahia narrates the history of the festival to expose relevance to the people of Savannah Region.

He said it bring serious ethnic groups in it catchment area together, bringing fortune, treating sickness, among others are benefit of the Kupo deity.

He called on the various ethnic groups to support and promote education, poverty reduction and building a united force of the Valga, Safalba, Chorba and Normee through this festival.

He called on all to go about their political campaigns devoid of violence for a political coexistence during and after the 2024 election.

He however informed the entire Vagla of the purification of the Jintilpe mound of during Samora and Babatu war.

The Regional Director of Center for National Culture Chief Tuya-Naa Azuma Ibrahim said CNC, is doing a lot to support intangible cultural heritage including Deng.

He expressed his satisfaction over the processes during the rituals performance but urged the elders to teach the younger generation in order to maintain the festival.
