The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Sawla-Tuna- Kalba Constituency in the Savannah Region and Deputy ranking member of Parliament Select Committee of Works and Housing, Hon. Andrew Dari Chiwitey, has rewarded 3 students from 3 basic schools in his area for excelling in last year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

The students, who were all from public basic schools, were presented with certificates and an amount of money.

Eribo Mary Naawminguma who completed Tuna Girls Model had aggregate 9 and received a received a certificate and a cash amount of Two Thousand Ghana Cedis, Deriguba Anastartus Niyornie , who attended Tuna St. Marys R/C JHS with aggregate 9, also received a certificate and a cash prize of One Thousand Ghana Cedis while the third candidate Gbalanbulo Deborah of Kunfusi D/A JHS with aggregate 14 equally received a certificate and an amount of Five Hundred Ghana cedis.

The MP’s Best Performing BECE Award was instituted in 2017 with the aim of prioritizing education in the constituency.

It was an initiative by the MP to improve BECE results in the constituency.

All the students had gained admission to various senior high schools in the country.

Speaking with Yagbon News, Hon. Andrew said when he became the MP for the area, he realized that the BECE results in the basic schools were not the best.

He said he had to sponsor free mock exams and donated mathematical sets for the pupils and that such an undertaking had yielded good results, with the children coming out with excellence in most of the subjects.

He said the pupils did not let him down because their results at the BECE were one of the best in the Savannah Region and advised the beneficiaries to make good use of the cash given to them to improve their academic performance.

A lot of residents in the area had commended the MP for his vision to provide quality education for the youth in the constituency, stressing that education was the best legacy to bequeath the youth.

Some stated that the MP’s initiative was not only to recognize pupils who performed well at the BECE but also to encourage them to continue with their education.
