Prof. Ahmed Nuhu Zakariah receives award from University of Florida.

The Chief Executive Officer of the National Ambulance Service, Professor Ahmed Nuhu Zakariah has received an award from the University of Florida, USA.

This is in recognition of his contribution to Emergency Medical Service delivery by way of improving on the Universal Health coverage.

In October, 2019, he was invited to the University of Florida, USA by the academia of the University to deliver a presentation on the theme: “Global Health, the role of EMS in Universal Health Coverage”.

As a visiting Professor to the University College of Medicine in Cinccinati, Ohio, USA, Prof Ahmed made a case for the emergency medical service fraternity and the need to use same as a conduit to achieving Universal Health Coverage in Ghana and Africa as a whole.

Professor Ahmed Zakariah is responsible for Pre-Hospital Emergency Care in Ghana and has being instrumental in the establishment of the Paramedic and Emergency Care Training School in Ghana which is currently the only Paramedic Training School for the Training of Emergency Medical Technicians in the whole of West Africa.

Prof Ahmed Zakariah is also a Lecturer at the School of Nurse Anaesthesia at Ridge Hospital in Accra, a Lecturer at the Critical Care Nurses Training School in Korle bu as well as a Lecturer at the Physicians Assistant Training School at the Central University College, Accra.

This award goes to add to the several awards Prof. Zakariah received over the years such as; the Africa International Award of Merit, West African Nobles Forum Award, and the West African Nobles Club 100 Award.

Receiving the award from the University of Florida, USA, at the headquarters of the National Ambulance Service on Monday,19th April, 2021, Professor Zakariah expressed his profound gratitude to the University for recognizing his contribution to the growth of emergency medical service in Ghana.
