The people of Yerikoi, a farming community in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District of the Savannah Region are seeking support to get potable drinking water.

They said the only hand pumped borehole which the Member of Parliament provided for the community had broken down and had not been repaired, creating a huge water problem for the community.

The community members who made this known at the inauguration of the Jaksally-CCOD University statelite mobilization centre in the community (Yerikoi), appealed to the Government, philanthropists, corporate entities, and benevolent organisations to come to their aid.

They said though the community needed other things such as electricity, trained teachers and upgrading of their road, water was the most paramount, thus the appeal for support to address it.

The women in particularly in area said the river, which served as their source of drinking water dry up during the dry seasons, thereby exacerbating their plight.

The women disclosed that water from the river was not safe for drinking, because their animals equally drink from the same source of water.

Speaking at the event, the Member of Parliament for the Sawla- Tuna-Kalba constituency, Hon. Andrew Dari Chiwitey, appealed to the government through the regional minister to as matter of urgency make portable water available to his constituents.

Hon. Andrew also expressed worry on the dilapidated nature of the Tuna-Kalba road, affecting the movement of goods and services in area.

He thus, appealed to the government to act swiftly on working on the road after filling several motions on it that failed to receive the necessary attention from the sector minister.

The legislator, who is the deputy ranking member of Works and Housing Committee of Parliament expressed worry at the present state of education in the constituency.

He called for the posting of more trained teachers to the deprived communities in the constituency to improve upon the standard of education in the constituency.

Meanwhile, Hon Andrew, the Member of Parliament for the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba Constituency, said Kpongri, Soma, Sanyeri and Nasoyiri communities that have been earmarked to benefit from the Rural Electrification Project have been abandoned and hence called on government to do well and connect the aforementioned communities to the National Grid.
