Nurses and Midwives across the country have laid down their tools as they embark on a nationwide strike beginning today September 21, 2020.

This has become necessary over Government failure to meet their conditions of services, the deputy PRO of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association for the Bole branch, Ankaara Issah Hamza confirmed to this Yagbon Radio Abdul Razack on Monday September 21, on Yagbon Radio morning show.

According to him the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) notified the government on Thursday, September 17, 2020, that its members and allied associations including the Ghana Physician Assistants Association and Ghana Association of Certified Registered Anesthetists will withdraw their services from Monday, September 21, 2020.

According to Hamza , the strike was part of their demands for improved conditions of service.

He stated that government’s stance during negotiations fell foul of Act 651 of the Labour Law which deals with issues of good faith for stakeholders, which the association appears to have an issue with.

Hamza reiterated that the Ghana Physician Assistants Association and the Ghana Association of Certified Registered Anesthetists are part of the sit down strike and hence urged the general public to seek medical attention from other health facilities.

Among some the conditions raised by the deputy PRO which the association wants their employer to address includes fuel and car maintenance allowance, professional development allowance, uniform allowance, book and research allowance, Transportation allowance, rent allowance and on call duty allowance among others as their concerns which their employer has failed to meet at the negotiating table.

“All Nurses, Midwives, Physician Assistants (PAs) and Certified Registered Anaesthetists (CARS) in all public institutions are therefore to withdraw their services from 21 September, 2020 over the above mentioned conditions of service which government has failed to meet, he indicated.

“The general public is advised to seek medical attention from other health facilities”Hamza told Yagbon Radio Abdul Razack.
