The Bole District office of the National Commission for Civic Education on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, sensitises the residents of Nsunua in the Mandari electoral area on Preventing and Containing Violent Extremism.

Speaking to the residents, the District Director for NCCE Bole, Madam Magret A. Konlan, expressed her profound gratititude to the residents of Insunua for making the programme lively with their presence.

She added that the programme was proudly funded by the European Union.

In her speech, she made it known that the fact that Ghana is sorrounded by Cote d’Ivoire to the West, Burkina Faso to the North, and Togo to the East, exposes us to a very high risk of being captured by violent extremists and as such, there is the need for every individual to be vigilant in all their doings.

She added that, the programme’s target audience is particularly the youth and further highlighted some threats to extremist attacks such as unresolved conflicts, disrespect for minority groups, mining related-issues and Fulani-herder conflicts.

She further threw more light on voter inducement during elections and encouraged the residents to make right decisions other than being convinced with money by politicians.

She encouraged them to vote based on issues and not based on the current socio-economic status of the country at large.

The District Director again sensitised the residents on radicalisation on the part of violent extremists which include the creation of links online to trap more members into extremists groups, giving out incentives to individuals in order to get them glued to extremists groups and many more.

She encouraged every individual in the community to serve as a watchdog at all times, fish out both suspected issues and criminal activities by reporting to either the Police, the NCCE office, and other and law making agencies.

The accountant of the NCCE in the Savannah Region, Mr. Lukeman Mohammed Hafiz, also urged residents of the community to still by the slogan “See Something, Say Something ”.

He encouraged the people not to entertain fishy moves in their community, and if in any case there is, they should not hesitate to reach out to either the NCCE office or the police on their toll free numbers for immediate actions to be taken so as to help curb the activities of violent extremists in the community.

Residents were further engaged by being assigned groups, given questions on violent extremism of which they presented accordingly.
