Baagon is a small village after Meeteng with a population of about 200 people in the Sawla -Tuna-Kalba District of the Savannah Region.

They have lived without their own source of clean water for as long as since the community’s existence.

Leaders of the community have over the years made frantic efforts to get a borehole but to no avail until HiChale got their request in 2023, and heeded to their plea.

The Kalba based NGO handed over a hand pump borehole to the community on Wednesday, 31st January 2023 amids so much excitement from the beneficiaries.

The Managing Director of HiChale, Mr. Emmanuel Dery Kuusani before the handing over ceremony encouraged them to make sure the facility is well protected to ensure sustainability.

He mentioned that the borehole was funded by a German nonagenarian, Rena Krebs from Cologne, having heard about the plight of the Baagon people. He also urged them to remember Rena in their prayers and good wishes as they enjoy her benevolence.

Reacting to this kind gesture, one old lady from the village who has been a victim of the water scarcity situation, had this to say ; “I am overly excited about this water today”.
I am old enough and I know the terrible water situation of our village until this moment.

I hope my future generations should meet this water and never go through our times of water nightmares again.

To those who brought us this water, I pray that you live so long to help many others like us.”

Another elderly woman disclosed that, young ladies from other communities do turn down marriage proposals from their sons due to the water issues in their village. She believes that narrative will change soon.

The community members indicated they were going to hold another meeting immediately to deliberate on how to take good care of the facility for their own good and in appreciation of the donor.
