Members of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Savannah Region on Thursday, May 21, 2020, thronged the palace of the Yagbon wura to present a petition to him on the jailing of Dinpo-wura Alhaji Osman Mimina Salifu, a former Deputy National Security Coordinator of the National Communications Authority under the erstwhile John Mahama led administration.

The NDC described the jailing of the Gonja chief as a political persecution by President Akufo Addo and the NPP party without respect to traditions and customs of the Gonja Kingdom.

“A noble man enskinned by the Gonja Kingdom as a chief due to his highly respected profile, a man who has brought development, supported generations and contributed immensely to the progress of Savannah Region became recognised and rewarded by the Gonja Kingdom as a deputy National Security Coordinator of NCA by H.E John Mahama”, the petition describes Dinpo-wura Alhaji Osman Mimina Salifu.

The petition added that” we pray your Majesty through his high office to demand answers from President Akufo Addo why he disrespected the dignity and traditions of the Gonja Kingdom but instead focused on the cheap political perspective of this matter”.

The petition also points to the continuous neglect and disregard for the people of Savannah Region in the distribution of developmental projects in the country.

The described as fishy the second updated list of government 88 District hospitals which captured 2 Districts in the Savannah Region even though the President announced 3 Districts Hospitals plus a Regional Hospital.

The NDC wondered why the entire Savannah Region was not captured in the hospitals allocation by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development in the first list until a release was issued by the NDC which led to an update of the list from 88 hospitals to 101 hospitals.

The NDC said in the petition, that the NPP government has neglected the Savannah Region in terms of development for a long time which they mentioned the abandonment of roads, school, water projects and electrification projects as key areas that have neglected by the NPP government .

The NDC therefore called on the overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, Yagbon wura Tuntumba Boresa l, to use his good office to draw the attention of the government on the issues raised.

Below is the petition presented to Yagbonwura Tuntumba Boresa Jakpa 1 at the Jakpa Palace
