Delivering an address to the nation for the first time since the outbreak of the deadly coronavirus on Wednesday, March 11, 2020 by the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
He asked Ghanaians to desist from the traditional handshaking as a form of protection and urge churches, universities and other groups that organise events that host large gatherings to put in mechanisms to protect people in the face of the outbreak of the novel coronavirus.
This has led the Leadership of Gonjaland Youth Association to release it first statement and measures putting in place with regards to COVID-19 ahead of this year congress at Daboya. Below is the release.
STATEMENT BY GONJALAND YOUTH ASSOCIATION (GLYA) ON COVID-19
The leadership of Gonjaland Youth Association (GLYA) is keenly engaging the Ministry of Health (MoH) and the relevant authorities and stakeholders in respect of the Coranavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in Ghana.
In view of this, we entreat our members to observe all the necessary preventive measures as announced by the MoH and the World Health Organisation (WHO) particularly, in order to stay safe and healthy.
We wish to re-assure our members that in the event of any directives by the Government regarding public gatherings which may affect our planned programmes, we shall strictly comply with same in the ultimate interest of all Gonjalanders in particular and Ghanaians in general.
In this regard, leadership will not hesitate to engage our Traditional Authorities, Regional Coordinating Council, Members and all other Stakeholders on any matter that is likely to affect our 44th Congress scheduled for Daboya.
We urge all our members to remain calm and take all necessary precautions to stay safe and healthy.
We wish all our members the Almighty God’s protection.
