The National Democratic Congress Member of Parliament (MP) for Dormaa West constituency in the Bono region, Hon. Vincent Oppong Asamoah, has presented sporting kits to two schools to promote physical education in the area.
The sporting kits 2 sets of jerseys and footballs were present to Nkrankwanta D/A primary school, Yaw Owusu primary and JHS on October 29, 2021.
Making the donation on behalf of the MP,the constituency secretary, Mr Stephen Awuni Azorba, said the donation of the items was a contribution towards sports promotion in the constituency by the lawmaker.
He urged teachers to attach importance to physical education so as to help keep the pupils healthy and to also unearth sports talents at the youth level.
Mr Azorba urged the school authorities to be serious with extra curricula activities to unearth the latent talents of pupils in the constituency.
Identifying sports as a tool for development, Hon. Vincent saw the need to invest in promoting soccer which he is optimistic would have various impacts on the constituents, Azorba said.
Alhaji Seiba Abdulai, the constituency chairman, who presented an undisclosed amount of money to the schools urged the children to learn hard and to take their books seriously to enable them develop their God given talents.
He advised school children to make their education their topmost priority to acquire knowledge and skills to become productive future leaders.
He said soon they would take the place of the leaders in society and without education that dream would be a delusion.
The chairman urged them to develop the qualities for hard work and perseverance which are essential qualities for success.
The deputy youth organizer of the party (NDC) in the constituency, Mr Dong-Ara James told Yagbon News in an interview that a construction of an ultramodern sports stadium which was started by the MP in 2016 would be completed in Nkrankwanta to promote sports in the area.
He said the project which was started by the MP as at the time he was the deputy youth and sports minister under the erstwhile John Mahama administration would be completed to promote sports and wellness.
“It is rather unfortunate the MP lost the seat in the 2016 elections but now that he has recaptured the seat he will revisit the project to see it completed”, Mr James said.
Mr James noted that sports potentials of the youth would be harnessed from the District when the project is completed.
The schools that received the items said they were grateful to the MP for the support and pledged to ensure that they are strictly used for the intended purpose.
