The lives of pupils and teachers of the Dakurpe Primary School and JHS situated at in the Bole District in the Savannah Region are under serious threat as academic work is conducted in an old ramshackle building.
The deep cracks in the walls of the structure pose a great danger to the pupils.
The school since its inception has not seen any major renovation has terribly deteriorated and has become a death trap.
Teachers of the school have no option but to monitor the movements of the pupils from playing close to the weakest part of the structures.
Community leaders fear the building structure could collapse in no time, and, therefore, appealed to the government to swiftly intervene to prevent any unforeseen disaster.
According to a letter sighted by Yagbon News which was written by a resident of the community,Mr Radio Awudu and and addressed to the President through the Ministry of Education and copied to other relevant concerned agencies and authorities said that the community have over 3000 population and over 500 pupils studying under the dilapidated structure.
“We are in the twenty-first century where Information and Communication Technology is a powerful tool that connects people anywhere in the World.Unfortunately, the school
infrastructures lacks electricity hence the pupils have no access to computers to learn ICT”, he added.
Mr Rafiu, who wrote the letter on behalf of the Dakrupe Chief Imam called on all the concerned authorities to treat their letter with the urgency it deserves, because those physical infrastructures could collapse on the pupils and cause severe injury to them or death.
The letter was addressed to the President of the Republic of Ghana through the Ministry of Education and copied to; the office of the country representative UNICEF, Accra, office of the country representative education, Accra, office of country representative amnesty international, Accra, office of the country representative world bank, Accra and office of the country representative African development bank, Accra.
