Hajia Fuseina Sulemana, the Bole District Director of the Ghana Health Services, has appealed to the government, Non-Governmental Organizations, philanthropists and senior citizens of the community to assist to renovate and expand 3 community-based Health Planning Services (CHPS) Compound in the District.

They include Seripe, Wakawaka and Kakiase CHP compounds.

She said due to lack of adequate space at these health facilities was affecting health service delivery and appealed for support to have the facilities expanded..

The Director made this appeal during the first quarter performance review of the Directorate held on May,12, 2022.

She noted that these CHP Compounds also served other neighboring communities and it was imperative for all efforts to be made to put the health facilities in good shape to provide the needed health services especially for women and children.

“Our health is paramount and seeking medical attention must be key to health personnels and the general public,” she said.

She also, has appealed to individuals and organisations to assist the hospital to procure more incubators for the Antenatal Unit.

He said though the Antenatal Unit needed more incubators to be able to cater for the growing cases of babies born prematurely, it currently has only one functional incubator.

The mortuary refrigerator at the Bole District Hospital has broken down for almost a year now forcing mortuary attendants to keep corpses on the floor for a while, she added.

She noted that the mortuary fridge which has eight compartments has not been functional over a year now.

“Anytime there is an accident on the road and the police do not locate relations of the deceased, the only option is to carry such bodies to the nearest facilities which are Damongo and Wa” which she expressed dissatisfaction with the development.

It is a major problem for us because accident victims and people from other places sometimes die at this facility. It’s always difficult to locate their families and hence it becomes a challenge for us because the hospital mortuary is not working, Hajia Fuseina bemoaned.

She again mentioned lack of motorbikes and water and washrooms for most facilities bedeviling the fortunes of the Directorate in health delivery.

Despite the challenges the Directorate had chalked some successes within the first quarter of review, she noted.

She mentioned that OPD attendance had increased from 23,841 from 2021 to 26,630 in 2022.

Two maternal deaths were recorded with skilled birth rate pegged at 95.6%.

According to her, 184 and 7 cases were recorded for Covid-19 and meningitis respectively with zero death for meningitis and one death for Covid-19.

However, 26 suspected cases of Yellow Fever recorded five positive cases with five deaths.

The District Director also used the opportunity to thank the Member of Parliament, Hon Yusif Sulemana for supporting the Directorate with five motorbikes to improve health delivery.
